UCL to transform student assessment with WISEflow

UCL has chosen to work with UNIwise to deliver its new university-wide digital assessment strategy in a new multi-year partnership.

It is anticipated that more than 1,200 exams will be run on WISEflow during the May 2021 exam period. This extensive roll-out will be followed by further exploration of the additional range of assessments available within WISEflow and next steps towards full integration with UCL’s internal systems.

“This is a strategically important initiative providing a foundation for new, innovative and modern approaches to assessment for the entire UCL student cohort in the coming years. As part of the UCL’s COVID response, we will roll out the assessment platform to deliver remote online exams for more than 20,000 students across 1,200 examinations in Spring 2021, with future phases supporting broader forms of assessment for all students at UCL.

“We will be focussing on the full assessment journey for staff and students from initial assessment design, through student engagement, marking, moderation, external examining to feedback and results release. There is lots to do in this hugely important project and we look forward to working with colleagues at UNIwise to deliver on our shared objectives in the coming years.”

UCL’s Digital Assessment Delivery Project aims to offer students and staff a dedicated assessment platform for formative and summative assessment that can be used on students’ own devices and for remote assessment. WISEflow will enable authoring, marking and moderation of assessments in a secure environment, supporting many types of digital assessment.

In the proof-of-concept period, UNIwise supported UCL in examining and mapping their full assessment cycle process from authoring an assessment right through to a student’s submitted work being marked & graded and receiving feedback. Pilot exams, that had previously been taken using Moodle, were run at the end of January.
